From our 26 years of experience in Physical
Therapy we find that Myofascial Release is the most effective technique
to relieve pain and restore motion.

Myofascial Release Myofascial Release is a holistic hands-on treatment that has a profound effect on the body's deep tissue to eliminate pain and restore motion. Pain is generally caused by
restriction of the connective tissue we refer to as the fascia.
Fascia is the tough, white membrane that
connects the entire body and gives it structure.
What is Fascia? Fascia is the seamless web of connective tissue that lies beneath the skin. Muscle, bone, or organ, each part
of the body is connected to every other part by the fascia.
What is Damaged Fascia?
In the healthy state the fascia is relaxed and glides freely. Trauma,
surgeries, inflammation, stress, and overuse cause the fascia to
tighten. This results in pain and decreased motion. Tightness or
myofascial restrictions do not show up in standard medical tests
such as X-rays and MRIs, so often your doctor sees nothing wrong. Myofascial restrictions can cause enormous pressure on pain-sensitive
structures producing your symptoms.
What is Myofascial Release?
Myofascial Release as taught by John Barnes, P.T. is designed to relax the fascia throughout the whole body. The therapist applies hands-on pressure and uses gentle
stretches to elongate the strained fascia, releasing tension. Myofascial
tension in one area can affect and cause pain in other areas. The
therapist follows the trail of tension and moves from one affected
area to the next, untangled the traumatized fascia web.
Since fascia is an interconnected web, the restriction in one area
becomes the source of tension to the rest of the body- like a chain
reaction. For example, work on the hips and low back can help reduce
tension in the neck which can in turn reduce headaches.
