As previously explained to you, fascia is interconnected and hence stiffness and tension in one particular area can affect and lead to severe pain in other parts and areas of the body – like a chain reaction or domino effect. For example, myofascial release on one’s back can help in reducing pain in the shoulder or neck…., and work on the hips and lower back can help reduce tension in the neck and eliminate headaches.
This amazing technique was first discovered and developed by the master John F. Barnes, PT, LMT, NCTMB. The goal of this marvelous therapy is to stretch, loosen and thus release fascia throughout the body. At first, an exploratory hands-on massage of pressure is applied to the whole body in order to locate and identify the affected area of stiffness. This is followed by gentle manual pressure sustainedly applied to the affected area(s) to stretch and loosen the stiff tissues, releasing tension from the fascia. This procedure is continued until the Specialist knows he/she has successfully released the tightened areas of fascia tissue.
